Dr. Saleem Akbar


Heart MD (formulary CVPNT) was established in 2002, by Dr. Saleem Akbar. His exceptional patient care and expertise in cardiology, has contributed to the success and growth of the practice.

Dr. Akbar graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan in 1989. He started his residency in neurology, but soon discovered his true passion was in cardiology. He completed his internal medicine residency at State University Of New York Buffalo. Dr. Akbar attended, Mount Sinai Medical Center and Elmhurst Hospital Center, New York, for his clinic cardiology fellowship.

Throughout his education and training, Dr. Akbar has been named the Attending Cardiologist at multiple facilities, to include: Sebastian River Medical Center, Florida, Medical City Plano, Medical City McKinney and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen. In his previous years, he also served as the Director for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at Medical City McKinney Hospital, Director for Cardio, Pace Research Associates and Chief of Cardiology North Central Medical Center, McKinney.

Dr. Akbar has obtained many awards throughout his journey in medicine. He was presented the National Leadership Award in 2002; America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals in 2003; Pioneer of Healthcare Reform, presented by the National Congressional Committee's Physician Advisory Board in 2004 and honored with lifetime mentions to the Strathmore's Who's Who in 2004.

Dr. Akbar is married and is a father to three boys. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
